Moorish Idol Fish-Shaped Cake

Ingredients:
Cake-Shaping Strip (from 9 sushi-mat segments)
Heavy-duty aluminum foil
Sheet pan
Prepared cake batter (see the Black-and-White Cookie-Chunk Cake batter or use about 2 boxes of cake mix)
Icing (2 16-oz. containers of store-bought white frosting and, optionally, the White-Chocolate Cream-Cheese Ganache)
1 (18-oz.) package of chocolate sandwich cookies
Yellow food dye
1 White chocolate chip

Instructions:
1. Line a sheet pan with 1 or 2 sheets of aluminum foil. Shape the Cake-Shaping Strip into a shape of a Moorish Idol. Exaggerate the spatial features, as they'll seem smaller after you unwrap and ice the cake. Wrap the bottom foil layer around the strip, cutting the foil if needed. Press small balls of foil into outer corners or edges if you think that the foil didn't wrap around the portion well enough to prevent cake-batter leakage. Wrap additional 3x6-inch pieces of foil around select regions of the strip if needed to prevent leaking.

2. Prepare your cake batter. Spray the strip and foil with cooking spray. Pour the cake batter into the prepared "pan" and bake until done. Let the cake cool.

3. Cut away any cake batter that leaked through the strip. Carefully remove the Cake-Shaping Strip. Insert the flat edge of a table knife between the strip and the cake if this helps.

4. Frost the cake with a medium-thick layer of store-bought frosting. Let dry. If using the ganache, spread the prepared ganache over the dried frosting.

5. Drop a few drops of yellow food dye directly onto the cake along the body-tail intersection. Use a knife or icing spatula to spread the icing around this area to make the yellow portion of the cake. Drop a single drop of food dye near the fish's nose and spread the dye to make the yellow section shown below.

6. Use a food processor to finely crush the chocolate sandwich cookies.

7. Carefully pour the cookie crumbs to make the the black stripes. Adding a very little bit of water to the crumbs may make it easier to control where they land. However, adding to much makes the stripes look uneven.

8. Pipe on extra white frosting to make the lines on the fish, as shown below.

9. Place the white chocolate chip upside down for the fish's eye. Combine extra cookie crumbs with a drop of water, and press a small amount of the crumbs together onto the chocolate chip to form the eye's center.
